In 2001 media company Lost Boys's business unit Content & Usability moved into the former boiler-house of the Amsterdam granary. Lost Boys wanted an informal working atmosphere with flexible work places as well as the spaces to concentrate and do research. The historical architecture is rather compelling. The space is characterised by different levels, irregular thick walls and have special integrated historical elements in the interior. On the ground floor areas have been created that can be closed off. These have different atmospheres and are intended to be used as concentration and research spaces. The lunch area can also function as meeting and relaxation spaces. As a number of rooms are multi-functional there are significant space savings. The design of flexible office spaces and the re-designing of historical architecture appear to be a contradiction. Hollandse Nieuwe has not shun this contraction but exploited it.
