Analysis of the work environment showed that lighting, air quality and acoustics were the three fundamental elements that needed resolving. Alongside this were key questions regarding identity, work place typologies and sustainability. We developed a clear and bold approach that ran through all 6 floors. With strong colour usage, simple material selections and a spatial scheme that worked alongside the existing building, we were able to design a project that provided a variety of excellent work areas while creating opportunities for Greenpeace to express themselves.

The ground floor has been transformed from a generic, undefined space into a busy, multifunctional space. The reception was relocated to a more central location, while the main space can be used for meetings, presentations, informal consultation, short work sessions, lunches and, of course, for Friday afternoon drinks. The ceilings here, and on all floors, have been coated with a sustainable acoustic spray. This has dramatically improved the acoustics through the whole building without sacrificing the spatial qualities of the old buildings high ceilings.

In the upper spaces, surplus batches of carpet and textiles were used for flooring, walls and new furniture coverings. Careful and  effective use of the available budget always plays a major role in Greenpeace projects.

Upgrading the building installations has improved the air quality considerably, especially in the closed rooms. By reorganizing furniture groups and adjusting existing furniture to suit various typologies, much of the current furniture has been retained without compromising the design. Reorganizing and relocating primary workplaces towards windows and natural daylight has resulted in excellent lighting and working conditions.

The identity of Greenpeace France lives through the different  stories told by the adaptive re-use of furniture, existing material elements and the use of sustainable materials. Adding large areas of greenery and  strong graphic elements supports and magnifies Greenpeaces vision and ideas.
