Nationale Nederlanden is a Dutch insurance company and a bank. They provide loans, mortgages and insurances. IT driven companies, such as Nationale Nederlanden, are having agile and scrum work-processes introduced at a high pace. Hollandse Nieuwe developed a work environment that supports this way of working.
The starting point for the design was to create a functioning environment, where teams can thrive and achieve at their highest level.
The light floors, walls and ceilings provide space in the middle of the hectic of the work processes. Every team was to have their own space to start their day off.

The walls surrounding the workplaces have a magnetic and writable finish. The screens are positioned in such a way, they provide the occupants specific information on strategic places in the office. PANL is applied as a flexible tool where support is needed for the agile and scrum work processes.
Secondary functions have been sorted per team and clustered so these modules function as a buffer between all the teams. At the end of every module, concentration seats have been placed to meet colleauges. These also provide acoustic comfort for informal meetings and can be work spaces on busy days when there would otherwise be a capacity problem.
Specific zones and functions are recognizable by orange or black colour accents, and natural oak wood. This creates a stable balance between the informal setting and the effective work environment. It also refers, in a subtle way, to the Nationale Nederland look and feel.
The central meeting point is located strategically, so both wings of the building meet each other in the middle in an informal way to share knowledge. It is designed in such a way, that stand-up meetings can take place supporting active based working.
